The Diocese of Rockford Department of Communications and Publications is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to sell advertising for The Observer Catholic newspaper, website, the diocesan directory, El Observador Spanish language Catholic newspaper and to secure sponsors for diocesan radio and television programs.
The goals of this commissioned full-time position with full benefits are to maintain existing accounts and relationships, increase advertising sales, develop new advertising opportunities and expand our brand with advertisers and advertising agencies.
The qualified candidate should have proven previous sales experience. Publishing, broadcast and web knowledge a plus. Exemplary communication skills, experience in Microsoft Office products a must. Spanish language ability and experience with InDesign also a plus.
Applicants must be practicing Catholics, have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel throughout the 11-county Rockford Catholic Diocese.

Shaw Media’s operation in suburban Chicago is looking for an experienced copy editor and page designer to work on its universal night copy desk in Crystal Lake, IL.
The universal desk is responsible for editing and designing a group of hyperlocal weekly newspapers that cover towns across the suburbs of Chicago, including in Will, DuPage, Kane and suburban Cook counties.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly and accurately design dynamic tab-sized pages, and feel comfortable editing copy and writing headlines for news, sports and features. Nights and weekend hours.
Candidates should have a college degree in journalism or related field and previous experience in copy editing and page design, preferably using inDesign.
